Attic Insulation & Solar Fan Upgrade in Eden GA

Savannah > Blog > Attic Insulation & Solar Fan Upgrade in Eden GA

This Eden Attic Wasn’t Bad. It Just Wasn’t Enough.

We were out in Eden, GA working on a house that honestly didn’t have a terrible attic setup to begin with.

That’s actually pretty uncommon lately.

Usually when we open an attic hatch around Savannah or Pooler, we already know we’re about to find insulation flattened into dust or huge exposed areas where heat’s just pouring through. This one still had insulation across most of the attic. It just wasn’t doing enough anymore. You could tell the house had slowly gotten hotter over the years and the insulation never really kept up.

The garage was the bigger giveaway though.

The garage felt hotter than outside somehow

The homeowner mentioned wanting to use the garage more to hang out and work on projects, but it stayed brutally hot most afternoons.

And they weren’t exaggerating.

You stepped in there and the air just sat still. Heavy. Kind of sticky. The attic above the garage had very little protection left, so all that trapped heat kept radiating downward the entire day. We see this a lot in southeast Georgia homes where garages were never insulated properly from the beginning.

Honestly, garages get overlooked constantly.

People spend money making them nicer, adding TVs, gym equipment, tools, refrigerators… then wonder why nobody wants to stay out there for more than ten minutes in July.

The insulation itself still had some life left

At first we thought we might end up removing everything.

But after digging around a little more, the existing insulation still looked fairly clean and dry. Just compressed way down from age. That’s usually how it goes after enough years. It settles lower and lower until the attic technically still “has insulation,” but not enough depth to really stop heat anymore.

Not great.

So instead of tearing everything out, we added more insulation across the attic to bring the levels back where they needed to be.

That part mattered.

The solar attic fan changed the feel of the attic fast

The attic also had almost no airflow moving through it.

And when attics in Georgia stop breathing correctly, they get unbelievably hot. Like opening an oven door. The heat just builds and sits there all day cooking the attic from above and below.

So, we added a solar attic fan to help move that trapped air out.

Funny enough, the homeowner thought the fan would be loud before we installed it. Most people do. But once it kicked on, you could barely hear it. Just a soft hum standing nearby outside. Inside the attic though, you could already feel air moving better after a while.

That was it.

One of those jobs that just made sense

This wasn’t one of those giant attic restorations where everything had to be rebuilt from scratch. The home already had a decent starting point. It just needed more insulation depth, better ventilation, and attention over the garage area so the house could actually stay comfortable the way it was supposed to.

And honestly, those are sometimes the best projects because homeowners feel the improvement pretty quickly afterward without having to completely gut the attic.
